It's literally ridiculous. But this is really good, and also did I mention the redemptive power of books? I did, and hence this is sort of awesome, general Winterson flaws aside.Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-85212688764293983032012-06-14T21:33:54.875+01:002012-06-14T21:33:54.875+01:00Yay! Basically :)Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-82338538727360571922012-06-14T21:33:09.684+01:002012-06-14T21:33:09.684+01:00Summary of what Winterson says about adoption: she...Summary of what Winterson says about adoption: she was breastfed by her birth mother until she was 6 weeks old, and reckons that all of this has had an affect on her ability to love and trust others, BUT she says this from a position of having been raised by basically an insane person which seems more likely to have been the source of her troubles.

None of which really sounds applicable to your brother since your family are clearly amazing, BUT it's still an account of someone who has been adopted and how she feels about that, even if she does have to look at it from the position of someone with a rough childhood. So... read it maybe? I did think it was really good, and I basically don't like Winterson, and I think that she's a lot better when she's all non-fictional and not just writing symbols instead of characters cause, you know, these people are real!Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-60119974695098787782012-06-14T21:28:01.190+01:002012-06-14T21:28:01.190+01:00It does look so awesome! It's probably some kind of fucked up formatting thing that's my fault, BUT who cares when it makes stuff look amazing?

And yeah, she voted for Thatcher. But I think only once, and she does spend a whole chapter of her memoir OF HER LIFE sort of apologising and then criticising all of Thatcher's politics. So... I sort of want to mainly forgive her, but I'll NEVER forget.Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-8475855497874524312012-06-14T18:30:58.725+01:002012-06-14T18:30:58.725+01:00I like your Thatcher anger.

HOWEVER, I'm interested in what she has to say about adoption, as my younger brother is adopted and as a family as are Somewhat Concerned about how he feels about all this (we've had him since he was two days old, so it's not like he's known anything else, but STILL).Reading Rambohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12614467198216577755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-82636742433383236232012-06-14T13:29:53.606+01:002012-06-14T13:29:53.606+01:00I didn't intend for that comment to be all spr...I didn't intend for that comment to be all spread out like that!it looks awesome.Franceshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00889220731638919659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-40136411322207148602012-06-14T13:28:39.420+01:002012-06-14T13:28:39.420+01:00She voted for Thatcher? nooooooooooooooooooooooooo...She voted for Thatcher? noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooFranceshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00889220731638919659noreply@blogger.com
