Good adviceRedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16456600806188531803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-78359216565876461892018-12-29T08:58:12.287+00:002018-12-29T08:58:12.287+00:00I have had this book on my tbr for ages and ages, ...I have had this book on my tbr for ages and ages, so it was fun to read your thoughts on it. It is difficult to review memoir, isn't it? As you said, this is their actual life here, so in some part the narrative events are out of the writer's control. On the other hand, the entire thing is a very interesting exercise in imposing a narrative onto our lives, which aren't really narrative shaped all in all. A huge process of editing stuff out and shaping this amorphous thing we call our lives. I think that in part is why I find the genre so fascinating.

Anyway, I am glad to know about these aspects--I am sure reading this that she is going to annoy me too, but I am still really interested in the story. I too prize good writing the very most, so I am really excited to hear that this one is well writte. I've been on a memoir kick for about a year and a half now, and oh my god, are some of them poorly written/popcorny.

Have you read Patti Smith's Just Kids? (Or better yet, listened to the audio that she reads?) That is one I highly, highly recommend.

Anyway, thanks for posting this.
