The thing is, though both those books are totally crazy, I had very different reactions (love one, close to hating the other). I apparently blocked out the odd sex in 1Q84, cause when I read reviews of it and people were like 'The sex is SO AWKWARD' I was like, 'oh yeah, I guess it was a little weird...' but I was so in love with that book I didn't even notice!

I would say that this is like one step up from 1Q84 on like weirdness levels. Like... no chrysalises, but also a dude talks to cats for no good reason, so... *shrugs*. I can totally recommend Norwegian Wood or Sputnik Sweetheart as being less crazy than this though!Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-31152541248992878632012-08-11T22:41:11.789+01:002012-08-11T22:41:11.789+01:00Oh maaaan, I didn't even think of the spam! Ha...Oh maaaan, I didn't even think of the spam! Had to be done though, since Murakami's favourite body part apparently switched from ears to the penis. DAMMIT MURAKAMI!Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-40790686003790921802012-08-11T22:13:40.437+01:002012-08-11T22:13:40.437+01:00Ohhhh this is what you were talking about on Twitt...Ohhhh this is what you were talking about on Twitter! Yeah, the odd sex-ness got me a little in 1Q84 with the 'I want you to stir me like I'm a cup of cocoa' thing, but then we've had this conversation already.

Hmm. I was going to read this after 1Q84 (I've read Books 1 and 2 but it took forever for my library reservation of 3 to come in) but maybe I'll pick something a little more accessible to start with.Hanna @ Booking in Heelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17705048655467252248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-21258867454960025742012-08-11T20:23:59.044+01:002012-08-11T20:23:59.044+01:00LMAO I think the constant penis-description would ...LMAO I think the constant penis-description would drive me nuts. I'm kind of pacing myself so I don't read it all at once, and then there's no more Murakami to read! DEFINITELY can't put the books down, even when you're frustrated though! EVEN when he's constantly talking about this dude's penis...Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-7566204229373281142012-08-11T18:03:53.596+01:002012-08-11T18:03:53.596+01:00But it's sooooo good! I suggest (if you ever feel like trying him) starting with Norwegian Wood, just cause there's nothing really weird/alternate world-y happening. And it's SO GOOD :)Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17371636785566309578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-46300564237783225072012-08-11T09:03:00.824+01:002012-08-11T09:03:00.824+01:00This is why Murakami scares me - it's all too ...This is why Murakami scares me - it's all too out there for me!Sam (Tiny Library)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16375434438465319913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6275165298547340568.post-7863490643079871822012-08-11T06:48:28.802+01:002012-08-11T06:48:28.802+01:00Have you read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End o...Have you read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World? I loved it, also Kafka on the Shore. Norwegian Wood really didn't prepare me for how weird Murakami could be. But even when he's frustrating you, you can't really put the book down, can you?CHEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04634088152624853449noreply@blogger.com
